Network directory installation Windows 7

These instructions are no longer updated. Instead of using the network directory we recommend the Cyberduck file transfer program for Windows and Mac OS X.

You need a CSC username and IDA password as well as an IDA directory path to be able to install the network directory. The Windows 7 operating system path:

https://ida.csc.fi/ida/<organisation>/<project>

The network directory can be installed for instance with Windows action "Map network drive":

Remove "Reconnect at logon" and choose "Connect using different credentials". Select a suitable drive letter and enter the IDA directory path into the folder field:

https://ida.csc.fi/ida/<organisation>/<project>

Click "Finish".

Enter CSC user name and IDA password and click "OK".

The network directory is now ready for use. In the example below, there is one directory in the project storage.

Windows 7 connection problems and solutions

Firewall
Your Windows computer might have a local firewall that prevents WebDAVS (https) network folders. If your computer is maintained by your university, consult your local IT support.

Webclient service
Your Windows computer might have the Webclient service disabled. Change it to "Automatic" in "Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Services" and Start it. If your computer is maintained by your university, consult your local IT support.

BasicAuthLevel
Your Windows computer Webclient "authentication level" parameter might be incorrect. Change it with regedit. Changing the registry is at user's own risk and requires admin rights. If your computer is maintained by your university, consult your local IT support.
You can change registry values with, for instance, regedit program. You can start it either by Start  > type regedit in the text field  > press <enter> or by Open directory <start-up disk>\Windows > double click regedit program.
The authentication level parameter is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WebClient\Parameters\BasicAuthLevel

and its correct value is 2.

File size
The default maximum file size for file transfer in Windows 7 WebDAV network drives is 50 MB. Change it with regedit. Changing the registry is at user's own risk and requires admin rights. You can change registry values with, for instance, regedit program. You can start it either by Start  > type regedit in the text field  > press <enter> or by Open directory <start-up disk>\Windows > double click regedit program.
The authentication level parameter is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WebClient\Parameters\FileSizeLimitInBytes

and its correct value is 50000000 (decimal). By changing it to 4294967295, the limit will be 4 GB that is the maximum file size for Windows 7 WebDAV network drives.
