National databank on research infrastructures
The pilot stage of the national databank on research infrastructures has been opened at http://infras.openscience.fi. Research infrastructures refer to research facilities, equipment, materials and services that enable research and development at various stages of innovation, while supporting organized research, research training and teaching, and developing research and innovation capacity.
Research infrastructure databank is a service for researchers, research infrastructure service providers and research funders. The service promotes sharing and openness of research infrastructures, as well as efficient use of resources by describing and showcasing infrastructures and their services in a unified manner. The service offers this information centrally, where it is easily updatable, and accessible through an application programming interface (API).
The service offers persistent identifiers for infrastructures it describes. Infrastructures can be precisely identified and it enables evaluation of their effectiveness. Persistent identifiers are a reliable solution for automated data transfer between organizations and data enrichment.
Development of the service began in January 2015 and it was deployed in January 2016. The service is in a pilot phase, so its contents and functionality are subject to change. For more information, contact project manager Anssi Kainulainen, Anssi.Kainulainen at csc.fi.
The national databank on research infrastructures is a service offered by Academy of Finland and the Ministry of Education and Culture of Finland. The service is produced by CSC - IT Center for Science Ltd.
